Bing do it.

http://www.bing.com/

They have some excellent pictures on there, its a shame that they aren't full screen.

In the bottom left of the picture they have a arrow that you can see the previous 7 days worth.

Mmm Google emulating the background used in bing.com - surely Google are not following Microsoft's lead ;)

Re: What have google done?

using google .co.uk since the background pictures have been introduced has anyone else noticed that when you type in the search box it is so slow also when i click on the suggested search list that appears when you are typing it just goes to a home tab with no results .Is this a fault with my browser (i.e 8)or google

One easy way to remove the Google pictures. Don't ever sign in to Google.

Well, I don't get the pictures on IE, Safari or Opera, and I never sign in to Google.

oopps title should say what have google done.

Absolutely and there's nothing like a very busy background picture to force your graphics card into working unnecessary overtime.

I took the liberty of removing your screenshot, I'm sure you didn't really want to share your gmail address with the world :D

At present any search terms you send via Google travel across the Internet and your local network unencrypted. Google are trialling a fully SSL (actually TLS) encrypted session between their servers and the end user, meaning that any search terms you send off and any results you get back are encrypted in transit between the servers and you.
