Actually the wonder wheel is just another way of presenting the suggestions they used to place at the bottom.
Come on you got used to the last lot of changes..You are just like a bunch of kids who have a class room change and get upset about it. ;) |
Re: What on Earth Have Google Done?
I don't know if it was available on the old version but I have just found the time line option and, now I know it's there, I can see it being useful to me.

They can be collapsed anyway. In fact, it starts up with them collapsed for me...

Re: What on Earth Have Google Done?
Hi
I have been using AddBlockPlus to remove the stuff from the left hand side. But the Firefox addon in blackthorn's post above works better. |
Re: What on Earth Have Google Done?
lol - you lot! it's only a sidebar - you'd think they'd installed a load of malware on your machine. it's there to help refine your search quickly and easily! Google are evolving, same as any software does, be it Windows, Mac OS, photoshop... whatever! the whole 'if it ain't broke' is BS.. how can you push forward if you never change anything? progression would cease to be...

other engines won't give you more relevant results mind you. google is quite unique in the way it works. lol. seriously. that's funny. lol. don't forget your ball. out of interest - what are you refining your search with? not google, I'm assuming? |

Firefox users can instead install Google Fix userscript (using Greasemonkey add-on) which removes the left sidebar and bottom search bar from all regions of google search results, providing the Old Google interface. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/76060 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748 all found using BING |
Re: What on Earth Have Google Done?
Not sure I see the problem.
One of the complaints people have about google is that if not used properly, it can generate a lot of useless results. Indeed, this is the major focus of Microsoft's current Bing advertising campaign. Now, Google have built in tools to help users refine their searches, to produce more useful results. Is this not a good thing? Not everyone is skilled at creating good search queries. If you don't use it, what have you *actually* lost by it being there? About 1 inch of the left hand side of your screen. Not really worth bothering about IMO. |

---------- Post added at 21:20 ---------- Previous post was at 20:07 ---------- I've tried two plug-ins for Firefox now and neither work. Well, one is supposed to work with Google.com only but as I never use that it's no good to me. Discovered if I use http://www.google.co.uk/webhp?hl=all as my home page instead of http://www.google.com.co.uk then I can be rid of the sidebar in search results at last. That'll have to do until something better crops up or Google decide to give us a choice. |

It doesn't seem to work for google.co.uk. I hadn't noticed that because I have google.com set as my search engine. It's not difficult to change the firefox google search to com instead of uk. But maybe you prefer to use the uk version when doing searches. |
Re: What on Earth Have Google Done?
Yeah, my default is UK, but I can't get the top right textbox to search with that URL (http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all) yet though despite tinkering in about:config, so am still getting the left pane in results yielded from that.
