Re: Virgin Media launches first online movies service

i can get dvd's from tescos at £1.99 a night or use my tesco dvds by post £17 for as many films as i can post back lol

as there is no postal expenses or the running of one of those nice dvd vending machines i expect it to cost me less to rent online

being first doesnt mean charging what you like will work

They may not have to post DVDs out but the servers, bandwidth and 24x7 tech support probably cost a bit more.

There is still a big difference between a postal service and VOD. With VOD you can atch what film you want when you want rather then planning in advance or whatever comes thorugh your letterbox that is in your queue.

i really dont see that as much of an advantage unless they had every film available or at least as many as tescos / lovefilm have

the postal thing often takes the argument out of what we will watch anyhow lol plus every film that comes is something we want and soon will all be in lovely 1080p ;)

if i haven't had time to plan a video night then in any case there are plenty of films on tv every night now for free

That has nothing to do with this thread, you should start a new one to get that answered.

Its designed for the "I can't be arsed" brigade. The ones that slob on the sofa all day and curl their top lip at the thought of "all that effort" in signing up to a dvd rental film service.
The one off "lets watch a film tonight Darlin'". Never realizing their 'Inspired Spontaneity' comes back to bite them in the bum at the end of the month.
So many couch potatoes,so much depression,so much profit to make off them !

I Like the idea of On demand media but in all honesty we all know it cant take off in this day and age with Illegal File sharing and what not. Although I do prefer this kind of thing instead of having physical media that for instance you could damage during the rental period. 3.99 aint at all bad either considering Blockbuster's 'credit crunching' prices.

All in all its a service that wont generate all too much, Then again I do rent movies from xbox live with microsoft points :dunce:
