Electrician is a high-risk job, not only for the electrician, but for everyone who ever comes into contact with his/her work.

Being a butcher? Not so high-risk, sure, watch your fingers... That's about it.

Big difference.

actually the Femoral Artery is the worst injury that butchers can get. When boning out beef chucks for example you could slip off the bone and stab yourself in your upper thigh and if you do get the Femoral artery it can be game over. Also you could injure yourself badly with a chopper lol

You have to look after the meat right as well as botulism is a killer also so there is possible risk to customers;)

First of all, the post you are referring to was a general comment about the validity of qualifications. Secondly, there are several aspects of butchery, which can have serious and life threatening consequences to the general public.

How belittling that comment was.There is a lot of skill and knowledge required from a Master butcher and it has been pointed out that an indifferent butcher is capable of killing many if he doesn't apply his knowledge well.

Fair enough.

My main point still stands though, set them a task, evaluate them on how well they've done, what could have been done differently etc. Sure it may take a little of the companies time, but at least there's proof that the person doesn't just have a bit of paper, or, as the case may be, doesn't, but that they do have the necessary expertise to get the job done correctly.
I've seen many many people whose skill level within a certain field i would consider to be incredibly high, yet without these bits of paper, they're worthless in the eyes of any company.

But isn't that the whole point of this thread? He hadn't been through that assessment yet and was the reason why couldn't carry out certain tasks.

he'd been teaching the other younger butchers how to do the job so i would expect that sainsburys felt he was qualified or he wouldn't be allowed to train other butchers
