This could the beginning of something. it could be like the scheme where you chose to play the recycling game. only to be later fined for not doing it properly.

could we see it becoming an offence if a policeman finds that your property is insecure. one where if a door is found to be open you wake up to find an on the spot fine waiting for you by the kettle in the morning? :)

Personally I am very careful when it comes to locking doors and windows.

I wonder what would happen if Johnny Plod crept in through an open window into a house in darkness, and whilst collecting valuables in his swag bag to teach the owners a lesson received a bash over the head from the home owner.

Personally I think the police have better things to do with their time but if its choice between pointing out glaring vulnerabilities in home security or handing out flip-flops to drunks in town centres then I'd say bring up the swag bags.

On the brightside someone almost certainly got a promotion out of the idea. :D

it would certainly teach you a lesson. Although what if the chavs see the old bill doing this then pop in after and take all the handy bags away lol

I definitely don't think it's okay, but then again, how stupid are these people, leaving their properties unsecured, in this day and age?

You mean Exeter :P Which is a city, but being in Devon has a large amount of old people. Also, having one of the top universities in the country means the population is largely made up of students. I'm surprised they didn't complain

Any particular reason why you've bumped a thread which is almost 2 years old?

I might be wrong though.

Isn't it if they have reason to believe a crime is being comitted? Which is completely different.

If find a house that isn't secure, then all they have to do is ring the bell, or leave a leflet.
