Re: Virgin Media Phone Expensive and Uncompetitive

Try and compare Virgin Phone with BT, they don't differ that much.

BT Line Rental: £11.54
Virgin phone line rental: £11.99

BT Calling Features: £2.59
Virgin phone Calling Features: £2

BT Anonymous Caller Rejection: £4 per month
Virgin phone Anonymous Caller Rejection: £2 per month

1471 + 3 on BT: 12p everytime you press 3
1471 + 3 on Virgin Phone: Completely Free

Call connection costs to UK landlines,Mobiles and 08 numbers:

BT: 9.9p connection fee on every chargeable call
Virgin phone: 10p for every chargeable call (Hardly a big difference)

BT offer 0845 and 0870 numbers as part of your inclusive calls,Virgin offer Virgin Mobile calls as part of your inclusive calls, most companies are moving to 0843,0844 and 0871 numbers because of getting no revenue share through 0845 and 0870 numbers.

So to be honest there isn't much difference but if you want to make dirt cheap calls then 18185 is for you, to use this via Virgin and non-BT landlines, they will give you a 0800 access number.

Yes as it will just end up as another thread with someone not wanting to have it any other way, IE, "VM Rips you off". Hence my simple input!

Once you have the phone line you can always use call18866 or one of the other similar services .. and you get the basic TV service free.

Suits me anyway ..

Like I said before if your gonna have Virgin TV or Broadband, you might as well take the phone as well, but rather than choosing Talk Unlimited, try Talk Anywhere or 18185 otherwise the cost of the TV and/or broadband will go up so you would be wasting your time,

XL TV: £23
Virgin Phone M package(Talk Weekends): £11.99
Total: Around £35 per month

XL TV: £29 (Cost of XL TV without taking Virgin phone)
BT Anytime Call plan and BT line rental: £11.54 plus £4.99 for Anytime call plan
Total: £45.54

And how much do you spend on 0845 and 0870 calls? About £5? So there you are it would be pointless switching for that reason, so rather than switching, you may want to look at services you can take out over what you already have like 18185, the service is accessible via an 020 or 0800 number.

Talk Anywhere 200 offers 200 minutes and line rental for £20 per month and offers inclusive calls to all UK mobiles, landlines and 0845 and 0870 numbers.

And besides, most businesses are migrating to 0843,0844,0871,0872 and 0873 numbers which are NOT included in BT calling plans.

And like I said before Calling features are more expensive and the evening call rate is being shifted to 7pm.

As m419 says, if you're gonna get VM for TV and broadband I think it rarely makes sense to not have a VM phone. I used to be with TT and they were great value but not cost effective to have them for phone and VM for other services. I use localphone.com to make calls abroad (usually no more than 0.9p/min) and for calls to 0845/0870 which are usually about 4.5p/min all without a connection charge. Just use my mobile in the daytime and VM phone at evenings and weekends.

They need to DROP the 10p call connection charge, I use the free minutes on my mobile, the landline is just for people to call me except at weekends!
