DAB is transmitted on many carriers from each transmitter, unlike Analogue that only uses one. The DAB set samples these, whichever location they come from, and you should in theory get uninterrupted coverage.


I have got to say the situation has improved recently. The transmission method has changed and there is a lot less "burbbleing" on the 128k streams, even listening on a Hi-Fi.

As for DAB radio sales going up, I'm not surprised. Have you seen the shelves in Currys etc. Not an analogue only radio in sight. So yes, people are buying them, but then only using the FM facility.

I've got a factory fitted DAB radio in my car and I never notice any change going from area to area and I regularly drive from the London area down to my parents in Cornwall.

Really, I quite enjoy listening to a crystal clear Radio Five, rather than the poor quality AM band you get on analogue radios.

6 Musics seems to be a effective avenue for new artists though. Many artists got their first radio play via the Beeb. I think this is a core reason for the BBC, the ability to improve our culture and expose us to new things rather than chasing ratings.

£4.5bn seems like a lot of money, until a corporation like the BBC gets hold of it.
