I don't think I can get the pump to come on without the boiler running, or at least I'm not sure how to do it if I can :erm:

I'll break the male code and have a look through the instructions :)

LOL.

Our boiler has a knob controlling it's own thermostat for the water temperature. On there, there is a position for 'off'.

I agree with Altis that it may be something loose in the radiator that is oscillating with the water flow.

I had a similar sort of tapping noise from my kitchen radiator for ages. Finally I shut down all the other radiators in the system then fully opened both valves on the kitchen radiator and let it pump round for a few minutes, this seemed to move whatever was tapping and when the system was operated normally again the tapping hasn't recurred. Maybe not the best solution but it worked for me!
