IMHO The channels may be FTA and the OP has that option - of receiving them via FreeSat or FreeView but there is no FreeCable. AFAIK All Virgin Media services are ONLY available when the appropriate subscription is paid. The service you are paying for is the delivery of a TV service on a PRIVATE network.

What answer do you think I would get if I asked Virgin Media to connect me to their cable network and provide me with TV M for no ongoing monthly charge? I would, of course, be willing to pay the one-off £35 connection charge.

In which case the answer is 'It can't be done, sorry' - not to accuse the OP of theft, or attempted theft, or imply he is trying to be dishonest. It seemed like a genuine question to me, and I like to think I can tell the difference between an honest question and attempted theft. We see plenty of both on here.

As I have already said, you can physically attach a TV direct to the cable, in any area where the analogue signal is still active and the cable is still attached to a tap in the street cab, and get 'free cable' that way. And you can go down to Maplin and get the cables and connectors necessary to alter the position of the VM equipment inside your house.

VM may not like you doing any of the above, but if you were a subscriber the most they could realistically do is cut you off ... if you're not a subscriber, what then?

My concern is that certain members of the 'Cable Forum Team' seem to be almost condoning what the OP wants to do.

No subscription, no service. Surely this forum should be closing immediately any thread which doesn't understand that from the first reply (like mine) with that sentiment?

What you can't seem to understand is Chris, the service isn't a free for all even for the 5 channels you would get by just putting the stb on the network. These have go to be installed correctly otherwise if it turns into a free for all where people just connect them to get,"What is free anyway" the the system will be affected even more by noise and interference, unfortunately you have no idea as to the effects this has on the system. I'M NOT BOTHERED ABOUT IT BEING LEGAL OR CIVIL, plenty of people use this forum to complain about the service that they pay for then possilbly the same people want something for nothing and are totally ignorant to the issues and problems it causes by shoddy do it yourself,"i don't want to pay for the cable to be moved" or "I just want the free channels on the STB" I WANT I WANT. you want a DECENT SERVICE THAT WORKS, THEN PAY FOR IT, YOU WANT IT to work as it should, then pay for it to be done properly.

You and others seem to think well cause you get them for free without subscription it's ok just to hook up a box, no it isn't, you want any service you either pay for a subscription or go down the route of getting freeview with phone line.

The OP can be helped by phoning VM and making a choice.

The OP's first comment was wanting to know if he could get freeview not 'can someone hook me with the all of the movie and sports channels.'

As already stated no channels are free.. The lowest package they do is M which although free with a phoneline is not a freeview package. You still need a valid subscription card matched with the box.

So sorry OP but even if you did get it connected there are no channels that you would recieve.. Have you considered freeview or freesat instead?

As for static IP's you can get fixed sticky IP's via a business account, but as they don't do TV it wouldn't help you either

I must say, I didn't get the impression that the OP wanted to steal cable, just wanted to know if there are any free channels if he plugged a box in...

As Kymmy says though, you'd be better going down the Freesat / Freeview route if you don't want to subscribe to any VM service. HTH :)

My thoughts as well which is why I advised he may be best going down the freeview route as well.

He may get the boxes moved and find he has paid out money just to receive 5 channels or worse none as they have removed him from the tap in the cab.

Yep, I think the OP might have been getting confused with the old analogue system where once the subscription has finished the box was capable of still recieving FTA channels. Where as the digital boxes are not set up like that.
