So why did Virgin take Sky 1 back then if it wasn't in their best interests to do so. They could have said no instead of making it a big deal when they did get it back.

Not everyone knows how to use a computer and not everyone has internet - TV wins always in my opinion.

It was only in their best interests to do so when Sky offered it at a fair price. If VM were desperate to get Sky back, they would have caved a lot earlier.

Sky was hit hard with the advertising revenue loss as a result of losing the Virgin customer base, not the other way round.

Lets not try and go off topic though, this is all in the past.

At the beginning of the row between Virgin and Sky, Sky was paying next to nothing for Virgin's Flextech channels (UKTV etc), whilst demanding top dollar for the Sky Basics. At the end of the row, the whole lot had been re-negotiated, effectively valuing Flextech and Sky Basics as being worth exactly the same.

The outcome was a major triumph for Virgin and a major humiliation for Sky, which was always going to have to climb down - after all, James Murdoch himself is a great believer in rampant capitalism, he more than anyone else should have been reminding his underlings that a product is only ever worth what the market is prepared to pay for it, not what you demand for it.

I know it's a bit of messing about but one way of treating Murdochitis. I know that this works, cos I never missed an episode of Lost when Sky 1 (and the other programmes) originally disappeared from our screens.

In fact If you ever miss an episode of (just about) any programme shown on TV then this is the place where you'll most likely be able to catch up.

It's much better to watch programmes on TV rather than hunched over a computer. Hopefully, when IPTV is launched on Virgin Media, we will be able to watch these programmes from the internet on our TVs. Now that would be progress!

mmmm is that legal? One hand its not ok for cable tv pirates and on the other downloading copyright content is fine? There's always 50meg BB for casual browsing..IMAO

You sort of lose creditability in some of the discussions.

No, it's not legal, and we don't allow any detailed discussion about how to infringe copyright, whether by torrents, newsgroups or whatever else.
