5mbit this time if that helps you. But CPU shouldn't make any difference, like i said i can get 20mbit downloading from Newsgroups, but flash often uses alot of CPU if i'm not mistaken.

I just find sites like this unreliable so don't use.

Re: Top 10 BB speed test

I just used two different broadband speed tests and the results are different by 8MB.

SPEEDTEST.NET: Download: 20:53MB
Upload: 0:72MB

TOP 10 BROADBAND: Download: 12.2MB
Upload: 0:7MB

That's with the service provider Virgin Media and I have 20MB.

Re: Top 10 BB speed test

Morning everyone,

I just wanted to post an update on how we are calculating the download speeds:

Step 1) A small image file is downloaded from the server to estimate connection speed (50kb)

Step 2) We choose image file size based on that and the target test time from a config file (sizes vary from 50kB to 10MB)

Step 3) 2 simultaneous downloads start - current speed is calculated using total downloaded bytes (both files) divided by the download time

Step 4) The result is calculated from the current test, so if you re-test it won't calculate the average from all your tests

We're working flat-out to fix the problems with the download speed under reporting but it seems as though we've ironed out the issues with the upload speeds, so thanks for all your feedback to help us achieve this.

I'll keep you posted.

One of the biggest problems with all of these speed test sites is if they are busy then you will get poor results and the problem lies elsewhere and not in your location, also if you run it 10 times you will probably get 10 different results.Try downloading 3 files at once from http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com
