It means absolutely nothing for you and I, as per my post above.

Virgin Media and BT are expected to do a market-driven rollout to 55 - 60% of the UK population, this money is to supply >24Mbit services to another 30 - 35%.
If you have cable it gives you nothing.

That's what I mean, IF it did give something, I'd be happy to, but as it doesn't, it can go up a politicians backside for all I care. ADSL here is very poor, we're talking sub 3Mbps speeds even on ADSL2+. We're lucky to have cable.

I think it's a rip off, BT have made millions of profits over the years but now plead that they cannot afford to upgrade to compete with cable companies (didn't they fund themselves as far as going to Chapter 11 protection, no tax payer money there).

We don't have Chapter 11 in this country, and BT is a British company. ;)

You would think there was an election coming up, or something.......

I thought that this was was an interesting, if somewhat cynical, comment.

But the tax proved controversial and the Conservatives had vowed to scrap it if it had become law and they had won the election.

It is likely to be reinstated if Labour is re-elected in the 6 May general election.

ASIDE. A worrying sign that I am getting older. Having read Kymmy's link, I read this thread from the beginning as I didn't think I had noticed it before to-day only to realise I was the one who started it. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/03/31.gif

Don't worry I keep doing that myself..and I've been here longer and my post count makes it an inevitable side effect everytime a certain someone resurrects old threads.

The "did I really say that" feeling overcomes me regularly.;)

Nice and reassuring to know I'm not the only one Maggy. I shall postpone the Blue Rinse for another year. :D

Don't care about the tax. Not a big deal for me and if it meant real investment in high speed broadband then go ahead. I am far more concerned about the digital economy bill in general.
