It's cheaper and easier to replace the router than looking for access points.

£28 for the access point I linked to and around the same for a 'G' Cable wireless router.

Ah but, the advantage of going with a separate access point is that you can put in the best position to cover your house. This is probably not the same place as the easiest central wiring point where your router/switch would go.
