Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 question.
Yeah, apologies to the OP - I think the off-topicness (is that a word) might be my fault :erm:
I'll stop now, maybe create a new thread when I actually do it to post what results I get :) Cheers for the info for now guys :tu: |
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 question.
To the op I do not think any of the service packs actually updated IE or Media player did it? these are not core windows files. I just created my own nlite unattended install iso today for a load of laptops I am getting that are not really hi enough spec to run XP full blown. I slipstreamed sp3 with no problem onto an sp2 image disabled loads of stuff and it worked first time

Ok download and install the HP utility then download attached files (hidden os files so it will appear empty) Plug in usb device and run HP utility . Tick Create a start up disc and point it to the folder from this post. This creates a bootable disc and gave me a C: . Copy I386 folder cd to the directory and run WINNT32.exe I think will be testing in a few in a vm Edit you run WINNT and this just worked a treat . Didnt work on the VM but did boot my pc to C: then a simple CD c:\I386 and then WINNT and it started the install :) |

Otherwise it doesnt copy everything and it will fail Same applies for trying to install XP off a USB key |

Both vista and xp copies over hidden files as long as they are in a visable directory. Only hidden files on the root are missed copying the I386 file copies everything including any hidden files As I said I just copied the contents of the Office 2003 cd to flash drive and it installs no problem. There are no hidden files on the root of my Office cd |
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 question.
You got me into all this nLite talk now.
Problem, I have managed to slipstream WMP11 using nLite, but it fails when slipstreaming IE8. :( Im searching now, but just wondered if anyone else had problems doing IE8. |
Re: Windows XP Service Pack 3 question.
You can't slipstream IE8 into XP - only Vista and Server 2008

However only WMP9 was released in between SP1 and SP2. Both WMP 10 and 11 were released AFTER SP2. As was IE7 ---------- Post added at 20:21 ---------- Previous post was at 20:20 ---------- Quote:
