We the public in this country are going to have to keep an extremely vigilant watch on this government and the tax rises that they will slip in anytime they think they can get away with it. I really would just like them to stop trying to make silk out of brown stuff all the time on the tv as no one believes them anymore and it is getting boring hearing the same pathetic platitudes that time and time again are shown to wrong. Respect your public be honest with your public and they might not like what is happening but they will understand a hell of a lot more then if you keep trying to spin every piece of bad news and make up good news.

Why its Gordon the labour puppet that has agreed to this rise

They do the same thing, year on year, to Train customers. Right down to the fact that the largest train leasing companies (IIRC it is now actually quite difficult for companies to own their own rolling stock) are owned by banks.
Still, so far this year, the government have stuck to the inflation + 2% rule which assuming they follow through on their promises and stick to it will mean train fares go down next year.

I've edited your original post to include the link to the article where Gordon makes his pledge, and to include quote tags so it's obvious that you're quoting from another source :tu:

This has all rather crept up out of nowhere, I'm not entirely sure how the PM has managed to sneak this increase in - I can't recall seeing it publicised anywhere, did I miss it first time around?

Classic misdirection. While the public was busy reading about Jade Goody's death, they leaked it..

Ironically, Max Clifford has said that in the past he was actually employed by the government to leak the Antonia De Sanchez/David Mellor affair while they were busy doing something else they did not want the press to notice.

But that would have been a CONservative policy, wouldn't it?

Both parties do it. I suspect that the Liberals would as well, given half the chance..

If you are referring to my original comment about the trains, well, it's presumably Labour policy as well now. Ok, it may have original been conservative policy, but Labour have had nearly 12 years in which to change it.

Correct and we're now all reaping the benefits of John Prescott's integrated transport policy.......

No - I lived through the power workers strikes, the dustbin mens strikes, and the miners strikes - I don't think we have reached that level of chaos yet (imho).

Speaking of which, just the other day I read that coal production was lower both before and after, than during, Mrs T's reign.
