Re: Comedy and Comedians

I have never really been a fan of the likes of Laurel and Hardy, The Two Ronnies, Benny Hill, or Morecambe and Wise.

I only really like new comedy, such as Lee Evans. His energy on stage is unreal. I love Dara O'Briain as well. I typically like stand up mocking every day life.

There are many types of comedy, ranging from panel shows, stand up, double acts, sketch shows. My favourite are stand up and panel shows such as Mock the Week and Have I Got News For You?

I agree, Dara is brilliant others in my personal repitoire are:

Michael McIntyre
Ben Elton when he did stand up
Alan Davies - (Urban Trauma standup and now QI)
Billy Connelly & Lee Evans (though I now find both starting to repeat too many old jokes)
Jimmy Carr

I could go on.....

i disagree, on Mock the Week some of the jokes can be aimed directly at a person or phaps a group.

I agree with Michael McIntyre and Billy Connelly. You're right in that Connelly and Evans are starting to repeat their material.

I'm not really a fan of Jimmy Car, I don't like his way of presenting the jokes. I know that's how he's meant to do it, but it's too dark for my liking.

I like Eddie Izzard too.

I think he meant Dara's stand up material. Such as his own driving lessons part. Cracks me up. xD

Well he does pick on himself and how the Irish are in unfamiliar territory.... e.g. The other night I saw him cracking jokes about how confusing it is to comprehend it being hot at night in a hot country. Makes me think of the now considered tasteless irish jokes from when I was a kid. Of course he can get away with it being Irish.....

Eddie Izzard again, losing his touch but absolute genius in his hey day. Are all comedians doomed to running out of material or do they lose the passion for it?

Prob uber controversial but I watched him once and I thought I would die, Carey Marx

Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Lee Evans (makes me laugh every bloody time), Dara O'Briain, Chris Rock, could go on. The Morecambe and Wise video made me LOL in a big crowd, I got some really weird looks!
