Re: CANT ACCESS certain websites??

I can access his sites fully running through my D-Link router.

I had one a few weeks ago on our router could not access the Weighwatchers website, put our proxy in and voila full access.

Re: CANT ACCESS certain websites??

ok tried to use WPA and then couldnt login AT ALL! So was quite upset that I now couldnt get internet at all.

But I got my roommate (who has the router in his room) to connect with an ethernet cable and we changed the security to WEP (which we EVENTUALLY figured out). I know its not as jsut doing something wrong we dont have time to figure it out now.

Aaaannnway, thanks for help on that.

Moldova, whats a proxy and how do I put one on the router? Ive heard it before but dont understand what it is. many thanks

Re: CANT ACCESS certain websites??

The proxy goes in your browser.

The proxy to use is : webcache.virginmedia.com

The port number is : 8080

How to set up proxy in Internet Explorer 6/7

Step 1 — On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
Step 2 — Under Proxy server, click to select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
Step 3 — In the Address box, type the IP address of the proxy server. (e.g. proxy.abc.com or 202.188.17.24)
Step 4 — In the Port box, type the port number that is used by the proxy server for client connections (by default, 8080).
Step 5 — You can click to select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box if you do not want the proxy server computer to be used when you connect to a computer on the local network.
Step 6 — Click OK to close the LAN Settings dialog box.
Step 7 — Click OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.

In fairness, it did take three people asking questions here to get the half of the matter out to a point where we could point you in the right direction, and even then we aren't constrained by Virgin Media's support scope. Glad you've got it working though.

The tech should also have referred him to PC Help given he's using an unsupported device.

Re: CANT ACCESS certain websites??

Honestly guys, I cant believe it worked. Im SO happy now! :D Was really stressing me out. (they took 5 months to install VM so I was already kind of ****ed off with the whlole thing!!) I was honestly starting to think it was VM, but seriously thats the kind of thing they should tell you about surely?

I know its not THEIR router, but I was told to buy it by the sales guy and it was on their website, so I think they should have some responsibily for the fact that the thing didnt have a setup disk.

Next thing is why I cant use WPA properly. oh well, thats not too important at least its protected and I doubt theres any hackers in range, I have a bad enough connection down the hall!! :D
