Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

well they drop off quite a lot

Have you investigated if something is kicking off in the night? sometimes VAs or spyware programs run a default scan at certain times?

Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

yea i check them and turn them off any way, so nothing should be kicking off on another site they said my temp was to hot and i should get some thermal paste to reapply to the heat sink, what do you guys think

Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

None of that makes sense though. If the machine is left alone overnight its going to be running cooler than the system runs when you are using it. What are your temps?

Sorry seen your temps 54 degrees is not really to high and in theory should not be causing a freeze.

Download and run prim95 if it is temp related the system will fall over very quickly

Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

yea your right i see what your saying, ive already run a cpu stability test and it run the cpu at 100% for 1 hour and it was fine, il try this one but how long do you think is best to test it?

zing_deleted 22-02-2009 12:36

Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

you have already tested it

Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

clutching at straws here, but how about run a live Linux CD such as Ubuntu for a while and see what happens. try using it for a bit, and if all is ok leave it running over night.

just thinking that's another way of seeing if it's hardware or software related.

Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

you would be better off perhaps trying pclinux as this loads to ram so your not just running it off a cd. I know little about nix so can not list any others that do the same

Re: My computer crashes when i leave it on at night

I was thinking something big like Knoppix/Ubuntu uses the cd using that for a bit, would use the cd drive more than you would normally so may point to problems there.

I haven't tried pclinux, but lite ones like Damn Small Linux (DSL) or Puppy can load entirely into memory as well.
