As a Virgin emloyee of over 13 years, I don't mean to be blase about it but I've been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, gone for the weekend in Paris.

Speak to most old-timers and a you'll just get apathy and a shrug of the shoulders - here we go again.

New re-org, new managers (meet the new boss, same as the old boss) centralise, regionalise, re-invent the wheel for the 7th time....... pah

I'm sure that's very comforting to those who are due to lose their jobs.

Firstly, those who are about to lose their jobs don't know who they are yet.

Secondly, I may well be one of those who are.

Thirdly, the post wasn't meant to be of any comfort, I'm just pointing it out that it's happened many times before and will happen many times again and when your jobs been threatened as many times as they do here you tend not to care as much. No point worrying until it actually happens.

Fourthly, christ you wind me up sometimes...

I didn't say they did.

No need to get wound up. Just because you don't care doesn't mean others won't.

The feeling is entirely mutual however I don't hold it against you.

I wasn't getting wound up until someone, who's really unqualified to speak about how people in VM may or may not feel.

Decided to post a comment which IMO was posted purely with the intention of winding me up with a snyde remark. Whereas, I am wholly qualified to speak about how people (not all, but most that I talk to) feel when they receive news such as this.

Oh, and I do hold it against you.

Why are job cuts always the UK based ones?

Firstly, and with the greatest of respect, you're not really significant enough to me for me to care about winding you up. Secondly great, this news is water off a duck's back to you. I just think you ought to be a little more sensitive to those who aren't as thick skinned as yourself. I don't have to work in VM to see that. I've faced redundancy as well.

Thirdly it's well known you hold against me. But in the words of Catherine Tate, "Am I bovvered...".

And we will have no more arguing, flaming, rabble-rousing or cheering from the sidelines. My infraction finger is very itchy this evening. Those who are thinking about piling in, consider this your one and only warning.

It would not surprise me, if VM axed ALL there UK staff, and moved abroad ie to India, and just outsourced all there engineers to UK contractors, and they is plenty of them isn't there, remember, the instals are normally carried out by Kelly's, who are NOT attached to the Cable network, and the sales is controlled by phone, when was the last time you had a saleman round. And then the whole network is covered. This is the way they would save money, which is a cruel way.

Re: Virgin Media is to cut about 2,200 jobs by 2012.

One thing to remember is that Virgin Media have huge debts they need to pay off, getting cash to borrow to pay back the debt will be really hard at the moment so I guess they have no choice.

I suppose it might mean the products stagnate for a while as they sweat what they have and try and save on development.

I have been through the redundancy thing and it isn't nice, but on the up side both my wife and I have better situations now, would never have left the old company without the push - try to stay positive even when it is hard!
