that's because it's outstanding

depends what you're comparing it with - most (and certainly i) compare it with other boxes plugged into their TV (V box, Sky+, DVD player, etc), and in some cases even better than the internal tuner (about as good as it gets in SD)

you don't say which Pioneer - but Pioneers per se are still only average

ah - you can't realistically compare upscaled SD with 1080p blueray - but you obviouly are 'attempting' to - hence what you base your opinion on

So you're not really talking to 'Joe Public' (with his V+ box) at all - at least we all know where you're comming from

Stacks better (assuming you have HD Ready TV)

If V+ didn't record anything - the picture quality is sparkling & worth the rental alone

You're correct

How much of the improvement you can attribute to upscaling, and how much to HDMI (digital) connection i can't say - but the picture on V+ is so much better than V box

Out of interest, when they install the V+ box do they supply the HDMI cable?

Yeap. Make sure they actually put it in HDMI mode themselves rather than the engineer doing a runner. You can easily put it into HDMI yourself but there are a number of people that get a bit foxed by the weird proceedure the V+ has changing from SCART to HDMI.

Yes, but it's best to ask for one when you order.

at some point in the process your SD image will need to be upscaled from 720x576 to 1280x720 (or 1920x1080). Either the cable box can take the SD image it is fed and send the TV an HD image or the TV can take the 720*576 image and upscale it to the display resolution.
Furthermore, the TV might need to do it's own scaling anyway. My TV is actually 1024*768 XGA resolution but widescreen (the pixels are wider than tall) so even if V+ box has upscaled the image to 720 the TV will upscale it again to 768 and downscale the width to deal with the wider pixels. Again, if the TV is sent a 1080 signal it will have to downscale it to fit so the image goes through two scalers.

I have a 37" 1090p Tosh,just to clarify,I am not really bothered about recording stuff,I am only interested in quality.Will a V+ box give me a better picture,simple as!

Don't forget that if you sit more than 7-8 feet away your eyes are incapable of resolving the difference anyway....

...despite what the HD fanboys (and girls) on here say.

Go google it and learn for yourself.
