If Device Manager is showing nothing, then it's possible that the onboard networking has been disabled in the BIOS.

Nice call

Hi All,

Just to advise, it's working!

It WAS disabled in the BIOS.

Enabled and now all working.

Thanks so much to all for the assistance. I have learnt much due to this though not to leave pc's alone - lol!

Again, thanks and all the best.

Gary.

Nice call on Stuarts part

Hello all,

I'm brand new to the forums (first post). I was just wondering if anyone could briefly describe how to enable on-board networking in the BIOS. I think that I may be in the same situation; I only have visibility to the 1394 connection.

Thanks in advance,

Optix

When you start up your PC, do you get a "press [key] to enter Setup" message? Press that key to get into the bios. In a lot of setups I've seen, there's a PCI or on-board setup menu with a sub-option of enabling/disabling the on-board NIC.

Hope that helps!

Sorry, I should have been able to answer this!

I didn't have access to MY pc before now so couldn't replicate what I had done and at my age the old memory struggles a bit!

Glad it worked out for Optix.
