Why?

The fact that you ask that question suggests you either: weren't taught about it in school, didn't pay attention, or don't care. I don't know which is worse :erm:

Why?

Presumably in the hope that we might all learn an important lesson and avoid such massive genocide in the future.

Why?

Why not?Why shouldn't they cover each and every aspect of world history?

It might make for better human beings for one and I think the policy should be mandatory throughout the world.

Some might argue that there's camps being built in Gaza.

You know there were holocausts before, during and after the 'Jewish' one in the last century, I have often wondered why that is seemingly the only one that gets remembered?

Possibly due to the numbers involved?

Far greater numbers (well over 10 million IIRC) of Chinese civillians were killed by the Japanese, on the point of a bayonet or in experiments horrifically similar to the Nazi's they don't seem worth mentioning though, we don't even bat an eyelid when the Japanese government removes all mention from their childrens text books. In Russia pre WWII the 1937 census was over 25 million short dues mainly to Stalins purges they don't warrent a mention either it seems.

First off, this, from last month:

Quote:

23 May 08 – Ed Balls MP, the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, visited the UK Holocaust Centre today to announce the forthcoming opening of ‘The Journey’, a unique new exhibition about the Holocaust designed for primary school aged children.

“This exhibition will be hugely beneficial to help young children learn about the history of the Holocaust in an appropriate way. But its not just about absorbing information – it will also give young children a chance to question values, behaviours and attitudes and as such will be an investment in the future cohesion of our schools and communities,” said Ed Balls.

Secondly, two of the Cabinet, Ed and David Milliband are descended from Jewish refugees from Nazi Europe. The Labour Party has historically been a comfortable home for Jewish people (Kaufmann, Janner and numerous others). Are they likely to sit comfortably with an official policy of Holocaust denial? Are the Labour Friends of Israel (which includes numerous high-ranking party figures) going to sit idly by? Considering it was led until her death by the supreme battleaxe Gwyneth Dunwoody, this is unlikely.

Thirdly, it's total bunkum, of course. Muslims are perfectly able to accept that the Holocaust occurred. That there are idiotic, unpleasant Muslims who don't is undoubtably true, but there are idiotic, unpleasant ordinarydecentworkingclassbritons who don't, as well, often in the BNP. Neither group is about to get appeased by Government order.

Have you written back to them and told them to stop being so damned stupid? This is nothing more than a nasty bit of Islamophobic propaganda. What's more, it's *obviously* a piece of propaganda and, as several people have pointed out a *busted* obvious piece of propaganda.

Oddly enough, if you want Holocaust denial, try examing conspiracy theorists. Lots of it around in 9/11 conspiracy circles ('Well, it was the Jews what done it, wasn't it? Stands to reason'). Google for 'Nick Kollerstrom'.

Not Japanese ones they aren't and when did that change because it wasn't that long ago I was at school and other than brushing on what bad people Tojo and Stalin were they weren't mentioned, unlike the months set aside to ramming home how horrid the Nazi's were, which imo they were, it's just left to that, you get the picture that only the Nazi's were capable of such heinousness

Agree with that - the Holocaust hasn't been the only extreme example of slaughter on a grand scale.

Ah yes, the ever-reliable Email Chain Letter.

Hey, email is how the Police send out public safety warnings, and Bill Gates is going to give half his fortune to the 2397234897423897423th person to forward that email about Disneyworld..

Tojo was Stalin's little dog. Stalin used to carry him around in a little basket lined with red gingham. I read that on the internet, so it must be true! ;)
