Re: V+ to be installed tomorrow
It's going on now... Engineer has told my wife they are not allowed to put my Component cable into the V+ box, as they are not allowed to!!!!! So I willl have to do it when I get home... Do I have to do anything to the V+ box to tell it to use component? Do I pull out the SCART cable (I assume they will connect it this way)

Re: V+ to be installed tomorrow
I am sure you have worked it out by now, but just in case......
Yes in menu you will need to change connection type to Component. You have an SD plasma screen, many of the better makes do an excellent job of scaling the signal. I have personaly found that a good quality SD plasma with component connections, does an excellent job if you set V+ box to output Component 720 Wide. This signal will then be converted to 480 by your plasma scaler. You may want to play around to get your best settings, I have tried it with several Panasonics and have always found 720 Wide to be the best. You do not need your scart still in there. You will need to sort your audio though as unlike HDMI, Component does not carry audio. Abs |
Re: V+ to be installed tomorrow
Well all sorted, I have used 1080 Wide and that seems to work... However what I can't seem to do is record anything on my DVD / Hard disk recorder. It's not a big deal as I can use the V+ recording, I just wondered what I was doing wrong. I connected my DVD recorder to the V+ box via SCART and then from the V+ box to the TV using SCART and component as this seemed to be the only way to display DVD output. But when I flick over to AV1 on the TV I see nothing.
With regards to the install a couple of things went wrong 1) Samsung box they moved from downstairs to upstairs wasn't paired to the card and therefore I only got default freeview channels upstairs. Phoned them up, all sorted. 2) One of my emial addresses has been deleted... It used to be the one that was used for my account, no idea why it has been deleted, would any Virgin employees on here be able to re-create it? Thanksl |
Re: V+ to be installed tomorrow
Unfortunately, the V+ box will only output one type of signal at a time. Therefore if you are using HDMI or component, the scart will be disabled and cannot be used to directly record to your DVD/HDD recorder. You can however use scart connection (the VCR one) to copy anything you have on your V+ hard drive to your DVD/HDD. It is only really for backing up once your V+ hard drive gets more full up.
Sorry cannot help with Virgin media stuff as do not work there. Abs |
Re: V+ to be installed tomorrow
Thanks for that, no worried I will just connect my DVD player directly to the TV for output then....
