Hang on what were you expecting, honesty from a politician?

I've met him loads of times, I see him around all the time, seems like a nice enough person.

By the way there's a massive difference between a 'nice enough person' and 'honest politician'.

No, i dont think he should resign. He should be fired and then put in prison. Preferably for life

Tell that to the people of Blaenau Gwent.

Anyway, someone should resign and Mr. Hain appears to have been elected. I suspect a few people elsewhere in Parliament will be glad to see someone else get the bullet, but it shouldn't stop there.

Should have gone along time ago, unfortunately the people of Neath would vote for a Donkey if it was put forward on a labour ticket.:dozey:

Also speaking as one of his constituents I totally agree with you. The people of Neath seem to only have one check box on our ballot papers. The problem is the opposition choices need to come up with something special to steal his votes and this has yet to happen.

He used to live near me and on a personal level he seems like a really nice chap. As far as this situation goes though if anything dodgy is proved then he should go. He does seem to have a solid background in the posts he has held in the Labour party, but I've always felt he has always had his sights set on the top job, and I feel he is punching a little above his weight.

Ineptitude, corruption or both - all are reasons for resignation IMO.

New/Old/Nearly New/ReallyQuiteShabby Labour politicians seem to have acquired all the qualities of pigs feeding at a very well stocked trough.

He has always looked and sounded sleazy to me.... now it seems we have proof... and yet he's still trying to wriggle out of it... and Gordo's his chum...

Apparently Hain is due to make a statement about all this shortly

Hmmmm...... I wonder if it will be full of excuses, apologies, yet more promises of prompt remedial action and a definition of the term 'taking full responsibility' that doesn't include resignation or indeed any meaningful penalty but involves staying put in a highly paid/privileged position.

Who actually votes for these people???

I voted, "Yes, absolutely!!".

Unfortunately...

Defiant Hain to 'get on with job'

Still... even if he did actually resign, he'd probably end up straight back in another Cabinet post six months later...

I'm not sure he would - I don't think (unlike Blunkett or Mandelson) he enjoys the unqualified support and love of the Prime Minister, which led to their assorted comebacks. Neither is he particularly liked in the party. He's in the invidious position of being a left-winger in a senior Labour government position, and that's a death warrant usually.
