I seem to remember reading that the only picture of them at the summit is of Norgay and it was a good 30 years before it was reveled Hillary was the first to the summit, Hillary was humble, like all good hero's should be.

RIP

Well if thats true, then fair play. But I was always taught that Hillary was the first man. Maybe my teachers of 40 years ago were mis-informed.

Well I can't agree as I also regard the man as a hero...as did Hillary himself.

I just don't understand the modern day attitude of dissing every achievement of the British Empire because we have become sooooo PC and anti racist in hindsight.

Why dont you start a thread on "achievements of the british empire"?

Please let's not allow this thread on remembering the achievements of a truly exceptional man degenerate into political/racist argument...

Thank you.

WHAT! But isnt that the attitude that got the british empire into the trouble its in? The empire came, the empire saw, the empire took, and then when they couln't be bothered any more with the hassle, the empire left. And left a mess behind a la Israel, India, Ireland, Iraq etc etc etc

No offence Hillary or Tenzing.
