At the end of the day it might be tosh, but if there is a file on there that shouldnt be it would be prudent to remove it regardless of what it looks for and the data it may collect. Err on the side of caution.

Indeed - and I'm sure most people here who are capable of installing their own PC's, the first thing they do would be to format the drive - even if Windows does it.

I can't see how the two files would survive!

Yes I agree that most people would, but the drive comes pre-formatted to ntfs so its just a case of plug and use, like I did. I would never imagine that a new external drive would come with any files on it, let alone a possible virus and after reading the original post for the few seconds it takes to check :)

as i read it they are external drives and most people are not technical they would plug it in and away u go!!!
every thread just recently ends up as a conspiracy theory. its an interesting article imo and well worth people checking if they have one of the mentioned drives.
