So you sitting on the exchange then?

Yep would need to be as ADSL2 is worse after a mile from it.

A cable connection... Not possible down a bt line.

Much the same the second time but heck get that down a bt line.
Why we love cable.

Im just over 1km away from exchange (straight line distance), abit more when you work it out and i get 20mbit fine (i could get more, but i sacraficed it for upload plus @ 2.5mbit upload) with Be.

Cable is great, till you get stm'd, which doesnt happen on my adsl+2 line :)

or my vm business package but thats a different matter :p:

You appear to be getting confused with ADSL. ADSL 2+ is still affected by distance, but nowhere near as badly as ADSL. ADSL 2+ has been good to me, and I admit, I do live near an exchange. I am perfectly aware that people don't necessarily all get good service on ADSL.

But, the same is true (but for different reasons) on Cable. With ADSL, you get speed problems because of bad network condition, or distance from exchange. With virgin, you get speed problems because of bad network condition or area oversubscription. Not all Cable customers get bad service. I didn't when I had broadband through an STB, and I don't on DTV. Similarly, I don't get bad service on ADSL.

Yet, I know people who havehad problems with both technologies.

So, I am definately not saying ADSL is better, but it is a good alternative.

Glad you guys are getting good speeds from adsl and adsl2 as where i live no one will touch a bt line for broadband.

Everyone here thinks it sucks but seems to be working for you guys so thats a good thing.

I used to get top speeds using dial up, as our BT line is pretty good, wether this has any resemblance to the ADSL2 connection is another matter though, plus I am only just over a mile from our local exchange. Will find out soon, just got my connection day as Tuesday 23rd.

I'd wait to see if O2's service becomes popular before jumping ship because if they get congested it could end up in tears. Might switch myself if it doesn't :) .

Re: O2 Broadband

If it is provided via BE, looks like you're better off going to them directly, UNLESS you are an O2 pay monthly customer.

For the "up to 8Mb", it's £7.50 with O2 Pay monthly, £17.50 without (free connection, limited time) and £14 from BE (£24 connection).

The £10/£20 package, Be is £18 and is 24Mb not 16 !

O2 broadband seems an ok deal if you are taking it with pay monthly mobile, but wins only on the connection charge saving if you are not, and that evens out in a year or less.

Had PM, and looked it up myself...

O2 Own Be!

Doesn't sound like good news for the price/package structure, as the Be prices are in general better than the O2 (no pay montly mobile) options - a good independent ISP could become a bad bundled one.
