Re: Advice needed about Heaters

If you wan instant noticeable heat then you need a fan heater, otherwise you need oil filled as suggested above.

you can have my xbox360 over the winter, it tends to heat the room up considerably!

But to iterate what others are saying, oil filled is the best alternative to central heating.
I use a fan heater for my feet when I am in the computer room to stop them getting nippy but not a good solution for for you want.

For a thorough analysis of why we feel hot or cold, get hold of a copy of Thermal Comfort by P.O.Fanger (McGraw Hill, 1972). Fanger's model is used extensively in the HVAC industry yet anyone with a basic grasp of physics will find this book easy to read. It explains the difference between conducted heat and radiant heat and why a simple thermostat doesn't always make us comfortable. Recommended - if you're serious about your heating!

Must say, my 8800GTX does have a warming effect on the room :D

Bit nippy the last few nights - winter is definitely on its way. I've been adjusting the timings on the central heater - bit of heat on a morning. I'll be asleep but it takes the chill off.

I'll admit it is getting chilly outdoors, but indoors I've still got the AC on, but at the temp it's set to it mostly stays in fan mode now the weather's cooled down, so just helps to circulate air & filter out dust. :)

OK.I took the majority advice and went for an oil filled radiator.I got the Matsui £30 option from Currys and going by the test run it should do the job nicely..it has already ease off the damp feeling of the room. :)

Reps and thanks all round..and I'm sorry to have forgotten to include any of the posts in the MHP nominations for October.:(
