Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
The VM engineer has just left and he said it was down to a bad install, faulty wiring on the outside box. Seems to be sorted now.
Bit Rate 20480000 bits/sec Power Level 9.9 dBmV Signal to Noise Ratio 42.2 dB Upstream Channel Bit Rate 768000 bits/sec Power Level 43.5 dBmV Download Speed: 19526 kbps (2440.8 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 735 kbps (91.9 KB/sec ) I must just say thank you to all who have helped with this matter, this forum does seem to be a little gem for info and help. Thank you All |

Good to see you got it sorted :)

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
same thing again, few hours online, after the VM man was out, my net went offline and the reading is:
Up stream Power Level 61.0 dBmV If it’s going to continue like this, well then I am dropping VM. Stable internet is more important to me than 20meg. ---------- Post added at 19:50 ---------- Previous post was at 19:29 ---------- RE: this modem. (would this be right with the lights) Power light on Send/rec light on and off with data Cable light on and PC light on and off with data?? |
Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
Sounds right to me, that's how my SciAtl 2100 works when it's operating normally I think.

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
I have seen bar fights that are more stable than this cable connection. It's a shame because I liked the thought and look of 20meg, but if the VM man can do nothing (h is booked to come out again on wed) after next time, then I am going back to 8meg ADSL phone line net.

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
Well it’s been sorted today (I thought I would let you all know, as so many have helped) It was a staple in the cable which ran from the inside box, to the modem.
The VM man who came out before checked for this and found nothing, but the VM man who came out today asked me if he wired the machine up and checked the cable, which he did not, this was one of the first things today’s VM man did and therefore found out the problem in 5 mins. Power levels went back to normal as soon as he pulled the staple out. |

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
A few questions guys?
1.Does anyone know for definate that they got Fibre Optical cable(as VM boast)? As i havent seen anyone from VM digging up the raod lately to install. 2.Does anyone use a wireless router between Scientific Atlanta 2100 and thier PC?. 3.Is anyone getting anywhere near VM 20mb connection? |
Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
:welcome: Sargy
1. The fibre optic goes as far as the green boxes in the street (I think) 2. I use a Netgear Wireless router between the SA2100 and my computers. 3. Yes, i consistently get 20 meg connection. You'll find the speed varies on lots of different things though, are you having problems? |
