Maybe that's why my suggestion didn't work - try again, setting the PC to 192.168.1.10 - that'll make sure it doesn't conflict with the other PC.

Oh - and switch the 'other' PC off (or disconnect from the network) while you are doing it.

When you fixed the IP address of the drive, did you also set the 'subnet mask'. If so, what to?

That's your problem, mate. Your IPs are constantly conflicting.

I can see why you might want to keep them static but if you use DHCP on the router to automatically assign your IPs, and whack the lease time up, they will be.

On my WRT54GL you can set the lease range so you could feasibly set DHCP to allocate the PCs 192.168.1.3 -> leaving 1.2 outside the range of IPs in the pool for the NAS.

It's in the right subnet so I suspect it can't get online because of an IP conflict. Keep it simple and keep one of the PCs off, then before you bother with DHCP then go into the properties of the PC connection and set it to something way-out like 1.9, then power cycle it all, and then turn it on in this order - router then NAS then PC, then try and connect or ping the NAS using a command line.

Then you can statically assign the PC to the next one up from the NAS or whatever you want to do. Personally, I DHCP the lot. But then, six PCs, 2 PSPs and a PDA would make static IPs slightly more of a pain.

Only thing I can suggest is contact the manufacturer (or try Google) and see if there is a way of resetting to factory settings (can't see any way in the manual).

i have already put DCHP on my router, ive also tried the manufacturer, but its ATMT, wich is a small group, and they donthave enough people to answer the phone. I have also emailed them a few times. but... no reply

There surely has to be a way to reset the NAS without needing to go into the web page. That defies logic, like saying you can only reinstall Windows from the Start menu.

On second thoughts - tried opening it? There might well be a jumper or something inside.

He said he'd 'fixed' the IP, but if not, AND he's disconnected the router, that's quite possible - worth trying setting the PC to (say) 169.254.0.10 and trying to connect to the drive on 169.254.0.1

oh god, youre confusing me now. basicly i dindnt touch the subnet, i left it at 255.255.255.0. i fixed the IP to: 192.168.1.2. The instructions and evrything says if this happents go to http://storage and it will find the HDD on your network. It dosnt work!!!!

Dont know! Its a bit gay now. When i bought the HDD i was so impressed and now im really ****ed off. LOL, thanx for tryin! (:tu:)

No problem. If you do sort it out, let us know the outcome. We've got one of these (or similar) at work, so it would be nice to know how to recover if someone changes the IP and forgets what to!
