The FTP logs should show the quota. Unfortunately, when using NTL it shows "226 Quotas off" It's been like this for over 4 years, so don't exepect any change until we get Virginmedia webspace. I know it will be the same servers just renamed, but you can always be hopeful ;)


Why don't you just right-click your folders in your webspace, it shows the number of files, and more importantly the size of each folder. E.g if you have a folder called audio that may say 10MB, images 15 MB etc.


A pen and calculator are also useful :D

Sorry, must be because I'm ex TW. I get forwarded to selfcare login, where I can then view site stats, usage and logs.

Anyway, you are much better going with a site host such as ukhost4u and getting 2 gig for £3.99 pcm

Its ok what i have done is go through every folder on the PC with all the pics in it. and checked the total in MB per folder and added them up.

I should have roughly 9-10mb left on Virgin so if I use my embed then i can take the photo's from Flickr instead, I never thought of doing that but ive tried it out and it works fine so I will do that in future.

no it wont take weeks, a few minutes for 55megaBytes.

it doesnt, so just get yourself a good FTP client ,windows/total comander is a good commercial file manager with FTP included, ro any of the free ones around.

another option , just go and check the size of your local backup of the personal VM website, you DO have a local backup dont you?.... and keep a check that way....

OR, you can even run your own web server on your machine and redirect all or some of the content off the VM side web server to your local machine storage if you can be bothered to read up on it.

or just go get some real payed for webspace that actually allows a CGI bin,as vm dont even do that,Now That Is something VM should do and allow.

and poorly made cgi scripts can be used to exploit servers and bring them down, then how many people would complain because some joe thought he would try a cgi script that was insecure and brough the entire server down?

while its true , a bad cgi can bring your average server down , we are talking virtual servers here, in that case so what, you install a bad cgi, it crashes your personal virtual server, not a problem for any other person...

the cgi can affect all sites on the server because it is a virtual server, all the sites are on the same machine using the same variables and configuration, thats why when people want custom dll files etc on their site or an updated version of PHP for example, it has to be tested because it affects all the other sites on the server, a poorly designed cgi script using 90% system resources would slow the entire server down which would affect all sites

perhaps im missing your point but it seems if we are talking commercial Industrial Grade ISP web servers then they should have good sandboxing capabilitys and hence no cgi can ever take down the master machine that these virtual web servers are running inside.

and OC there is now work being done on real virtual PC servers that take the whole generic OS as a read only snap shot, and you mount a copy of that that as read/write and add your own binarys as you see fit , including web servers and all your personal wants if you so wish.and its all sandbox protected.

again, the whole thing can never effect the real IG ISP server hardware to such a degree that its noticed by other users on that hardware (unless they over subscribe that kit OC).

hmm, i think i see the point your trying to make, are you saying REBOL wont get you a job as its not powerful ?.

you know this for a fact as you have tryed it in a commercial setting and know its not up to the job?.

perhaps if you told this 'prospective employer' that REBOL is infact written by Carl Sassenrath, (the guy that gave you the multitasking Amiga OS way back in 1985, so he knows a few things about small and innovative coding for the masses), not some unknown linux backroom coder in his spare time ( and there are some really innovative coders there, several came from the amiga platform days actually),and actually showed the boss what it can do, then perhaps he/she might actually listen and learn.

remember the P2p Morpheus app ?,back in 2001 when it was going to upgrade and bring out version 2x.

well REBOL was going to be that app until Morpheus got into serious finantial trouble and court action etc, is that a high enough commercial grade app for you to look again and ignore preconceptions perhaps...?
