Re: Webspace
Sorry Barewolf - was trying to help you out, but you're incredibly slow with your replies chief. I'm off to watch some TV.
Hope you get it sorted. |

Why don't you just right-click your folders in your webspace, it shows the number of files, and more importantly the size of each folder. E.g if you have a folder called audio that may say 10MB, images 15 MB etc. A pen and calculator are also useful :D |
Re: Webspace
Sorry, must be because I'm ex TW. I get forwarded to selfcare login, where I can then view site stats, usage and logs.
Anyway, you are much better going with a site host such as ukhost4u and getting 2 gig for £3.99 pcm |
Re: Webspace
Its ok what i have done is go through every folder on the PC with all the pics in it. and checked the total in MB per folder and added them up.
I should have roughly 9-10mb left on Virgin so if I use my embed then i can take the photo's from Flickr instead, I never thought of doing that but ive tried it out and it works fine so I will do that in future. Cheers for that. |

it doesnt, so just get yourself a good FTP client ,windows/total comander is a good commercial file manager with FTP included, ro any of the free ones around. another option , just go and check the size of your local backup of the personal VM website, you DO have a local backup dont you?.... and keep a check that way.... OR, you can even run your own web server on your machine and redirect all or some of the content off the VM side web server to your local machine storage if you can be bothered to read up on it. or just go get some real payed for webspace that actually allows a CGI bin,as vm dont even do that,Now That Is something VM should do and allow. ---------- Post added at 02:38 ---------- Previous post was at 02:35 ---------- opps ,sorry for re-stating whats already been said .... |

Re: Webspace
perhaps im missing your point but it seems if we are talking commercial Industrial Grade ISP web servers then they should have good sandboxing capabilitys and hence no cgi can ever take down the master machine that these virtual web servers are running inside.
for instance: http://www.zeus.com/products/zws/dynamic.html " http://www.zeus.com/assets/default/S...ic/img/cgi.png Secure CGI sandbox Carefully engineered to minimize fork() overhead, ZWS provides the fastest, more scalable platform for CGI execution. Easy to configure CGI concurrency limits, scalable error logging, and secure sandboxing prevent errant or untrustworthy programs monopolizing CPU resource or attempting security breaches." hell, if they initalised the personal sandboxed cgi bin, you could run a simple (yet powerful) self contained rebol script 'web server' inside that, and totally ignore their external installed options, and never worry about bringing down any external app. http://rebolweek.blogspot.com/ "Cheyenne Dockimbel's Apache class webserver in 100Kb of REBOL code is now in beta, and being thrashed by beta testers in an attempt to weed out all the bugs. Cheyenne offers fast-cgi REBOL scripting, and is resistant to most all the classical web attacks, with 180 requests/second on the RSP test page on an AMD 3500+ processor. Maxim has now started work on a Remark module. Look for a download url in the near future as the 1.0 release approaches. In the meantime, the RSP documentation is available." http://www.rebol.com/news/cheyenne.html http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...eb+server&meta= and OC there is now work being done on real virtual PC servers that take the whole generic OS as a read only snap shot, and you mount a copy of that that as read/write and add your own binarys as you see fit , including web servers and all your personal wants if you so wish.and its all sandbox protected. again, the whole thing can never effect the real IG ISP server hardware to such a degree that its noticed by other users on that hardware (unless they over subscribe that kit OC). |
Re: Webspace
I would not call it a resume, If you show that to a prospective employer you will not get the job.

you know this for a fact as you have tryed it in a commercial setting and know its not up to the job?. perhaps if you told this 'prospective employer' that REBOL is infact written by Carl Sassenrath, (the guy that gave you the multitasking Amiga OS way back in 1985, so he knows a few things about small and innovative coding for the masses), not some unknown linux backroom coder in his spare time ( and there are some really innovative coders there, several came from the amiga platform days actually),and actually showed the boss what it can do, then perhaps he/she might actually listen and learn. remember the P2p Morpheus app ?,back in 2001 when it was going to upgrade and bring out version 2x. well REBOL was going to be that app until Morpheus got into serious finantial trouble and court action etc, is that a high enough commercial grade app for you to look again and ignore preconceptions perhaps...? http://www.rebol.com/news1a31.html " REBOL and Morpheus Join Forces To create the largest programmable content network. California, USA - October 31, 2001 - REBOL Technologies and StreamCast Networks (formerly MusicCity.com) today announced a partnership to create the world's largest peer-to-peer X Internet content network. StreamCast, makers of Morpheus and next generation peer-to-peer content distribution networks, will base Morpheus 2.0 on REBOL's X Internet operating system (IOS) technology to provide interactive programmable content to more than 30 million users by the end of the year. "This partnership catapults the Internet into a new era," says Carl Sassenrath, Founder and CTO of REBOL Technologies. "It combines the ubiquity of StreamCast's advanced peer-to-peer distribution system with the power and operating system independence of REBOL's X Internet applications." " apart from that..., we are talking powerful end user sandboxed apps and cgi ,that dont bring the main hardware down as its running from inside the IG ISP webserver cgi bin; to take from one of those US terms, 'empower the end users' options at no risk to the companys, as it were. |
