I think Chris makes a very valid point, particularly with respect to issues of (illegal) immigration. We wouldn't have hordes of people trying to come and eek out a living here if the conditions in Africa weren't so poor.

Sorry, but 'd have a lot more respect for what the likes of Geldof and Bono claim to want to achieve in terms of world poverty if they gave up more of the trappings of their own fabulous wealth.

Just heard BG banging on again about people who go on holiday to third world countries and don't see the people, dying in poverty around them. How many holidays do you have Sir Bob, who pays for them, where do you jet off to and what do you do whilst you're there ?

Come, come, Geldof's given up his hair stylist...

The world is small and to be honest, imo, unless its happening to you I dont think it matters where the suffering or injustice is. Africa need a lot of help and Darfur is one place we should pay attention too instead of Paris Hilton, logos and other farily minor issues.

Well we live in a fairly free country and anyone who wants to volunteer to work in the world's deprived areas is pretty much free to do so.

Yes, I know it is incorrect English, but that seems to be the current Forum fashion (in some threads, anyway).

On a different budget to the one it started with, of course.

I forgot to mention the waste of spending £250,000 (or over half an Olympic logo) training doctors for jobs that aren't there.
