here is what you do you sign up to the orange home and creat a dial up account. you use pop.orangehome.co.uk and smtp.ntlworld.com as your settings and full email address as your username. This works 100% tested :) i do take it your with VM???

I just knew you was going to say that. :p: I think my point is still a valid one though. :D

The other thing to remember also is, I used to have a virgin net email addy, and because I didn't sign in with their dial up settings (I'd moved providers) they cancelled my account, after 30 days of "inactivity".

You're both right :D Gone are the days when it would have worked. I can't even use a SMTP proxy, such is NTL's security. But you can use one provider for POP, and another for SMTP, as zing says. That said, I think there are more exotic flavours of SMTP that would allow me to authenticate from outside the network.

At the moment I use a small outfit called "Pepperfish". Never had a problem. I think it costs about £20 a year - being a while since I made my last annual payment. They're now shutting down - not financially viable to continue. Great shame. I've got about 3 weeks to make alternative arrangements.

Right. I've gone with I-Web Solutions - you might have heard of them :D

The domain name. God what a nightmare. They're all in use. Everything I can think of. I've nearly wept over this keyboard in frustration. IT'S MY NAME :fit: It's all too much :mis:

I have a domain hosted by them - no problems, I'm surprised all the leopardskin variants have gone - not ;) :D

Humf. I tried every translation of "The Dwarf" and "Leopard". Even my own name is registered. Some domain variants are free - but I worry about sharing :erm: I've suggested a couple of domains - just awaiting a reply to my email.

All sorted :D Gone with jpw.me.uk - about £19 for two years. Linux Mini package. Just waiting for the domain to be accessible :hyper:
