I'm due to get mine on 10th March. I think that there have been several software updates since the first ones came out, and a lot of the problems previously reported have now been solved.

Re: Just Got V+

Had my V+ installed over the weekend, so here's my take...

The Good:-
  • Install, including the moving of my old Pace box, took about 40 minutes.
  • Everything worked straight out of the box, including HD.
  • Picture quality (with a couple of exceptions - see below) is excellent on 720p. On 1080i it doesn't seem so hot, but I assume that's my panels fault not VM's.
  • I find myself staring, almost hypnotised, at the BBC HD preview loop and will watch almost anything in HD at the moment (Last of the Summer Wine !!!)
  • I like the GUI, and the response times have been excellent
The Bad:-
  • Engineer was an hour early. Normally this would be a cause for celebration, but it meant I almost missed him as he was wondering back to his van to leave because no-one was in when he knocked on the door. Not sure what would have happened had I missed him...
  • Because everything worked out of the box it was fine, but he was out of the door following the install before I could even ask him half the questions I thought I needed to ask (having read stuff on here).
  • Didn't exactly get a good "lesson" in how to use the thing. I find it relatively simple but for some a better run through might be in order.
  • The Sky Sports channels (of the channels I've looked at) appear to have a much lower picture quality than all the BBC, ITV, C4 etc ones. No idea if this is a general Sky issue or a Sky/VM issue but it had noticeable artifacts etc.
  • Not being able to re-order the channels is a right pain in the ****.
The question:-

I have my old Pace box moved into another room. Should VOD work on that box as well as the V+ box?

Thanks. If a re-boot doesn't work I guess I'll have to ring them.

Peterborough (if you were referring to me.
I'll let you all know Saturday afternoon how it goes.
I'm starting to write a check list so I'm ready when the engineer comes (8am....)

Re: Just Got V+

Another question if I may.

When you record something of an HD channel (so BBC HD by default at the moment) does it record at the settings that you have set up at the time, or does it record in whatever the native format is and then up/down scale it for play back?

Not sure that's particularly clear so I'll give an example. I've made a 10 minute recording from BBC HD because I want to try the different settings (720 and 1080) on the same bit of footage. Is that recording now locked at 720 (my setting when I recorded it) or will changing my settings before playback have the same effect as it wold on live tv?

I had mine installed today - 1st problem I had was the mute and volume not working but paired it with the TV via the help button and it is now working fine :) Also Virgin central 119/120 would not load - Just turned off box for a minute or two at power source and turned on - System rebooted and it has worked every time since
