Are all the threads in here as misinformed as this one?

Re: Virgin Media more expensive than Sky

There is me, im 18 - i pay for the broadband and TV, theres my 2 brothers, my mum, dad and my mums a childminder so there are about 6 more kids in the house watching TV aswell. No one really needs to record 2 channels while watching another, record 1 while watching 1 is enough.
Sky+ services are going to be free if rumour has it?

Sky+ is more then worth it as the packages are cheaper.

Whats misinformed about this thread? VM packages are more expensive then Sky

Don't get me wrong, ntl & Telewest were always cheaper then Sky, but now it just seems they are more expensive now after rebranding.

Re: Virgin Media more expensive than Sky

I can get:

Sky:
Landline £11
Talk Unlimited £5
Broadband (up to 8 gives me 4) £17
TV £21
= £53

But I have the VIP pack, which I’ve worked out to be cheaper than Sky's.

Sky:
Broadband: £17.00 at only 4mb (if I took an accurate costing compared to 10mb I would have to times £17*2.5 = £42.50)
£40 one off activation fee for Broadband
BT Landline: £11
Talk Unlimited: £5
Full TV inc. Sky Sport + Movies: £43.50
Multiroom subscription: £10
HD Subscription: £10
Purchase of HD Box: £300
£96.50
£340 one off costs. £10 online discount.
If I take into consideration the broadband cost it makes Virgin look even more attractive.
All costs are taken from the website on a package I only just built.

Virgin:
VIP Pack £85
No extra charges. £10 online discount.

Sky is horrendous in comparison. When is Sky going to offer cheaper packages in comparison to Virgin? Sky is more expensive.

Re: Virgin Media more expensive than Sky

The prices you've quoted in this thread for Virgin Media services are incorrect, misleading and I'm sure confusing to anyone who doesn't have an understanding of how the services are priced.

The SKY information you've posted is misleading too. I don't know where you picked up that price of £36.00 from, I've never heard of SKY running a £36.00 package. Are you failing to add in the price of a BT line?

Like for like, VM's new packaging and pricing compares favourably with SKY right across the board.

BTW, that last message I posted was for Zee, not you Downloads. ;)

Blackie, if you've read my posts you'll see that i entered the prices for Linerental.

See Sky.com for prices of this package.

I work with Sky's pricing every day and I do not recognise the deal you're quoting. If you're going to post this stuff you should at least back it up if asked.

You said:

Sky:

- 139 TV channels
- 16Mbps Broadband (Unlimited usage)
- Free evening, Daytime, Weekend & International calls
- No contract with Landline
- £36 per month
- No one-off charge

That is rubbish. The price does NOT include BT's line rental and it says so in black and white on the SKY website. That's my point, your information is misleading and incorrect. The price for that package is £47.00 per month. (6 mixes, Talk Unlimited Phone, Max Broadband, Telephone line with BT)

Are you going to admit you've made a mistake and this thread is inaccurate?

Re: Virgin Media more expensive than Sky

2 for Deals

TV + Phone:
Virgin: Large TV + Medium phone = £20
Sky: 4 Mixes £18 + BT Landline £11 = £29 (phone package is better)

TV + Broadband:
Virgin: Large TV + Medium Phone. = £20
Sky: 4 Mixes £18 + Broadband up to 8 £17 = £35 (Broadband is much better but paying more)

Broadband + Phone: £20
Virgin: Medium Broadband + Medium Phone = £20
Sky: Do they offer a service without TV??

3 for Deal

Virgin: Large TV + Medium Phone + Medium Broadband = £30
Sky: See, Speak Surf: £15 + Landline £11 = £26 (talk package is better but TV only has 2 mixes and this offer only covers 50% of Nation, else you have to take the £26 pack + £11 line rental)

Feel free to flame me for my inaccuracies as there are bound to be a couple, but I have just taken the prices from their sites.

I still can’t find this £36 pack including line rental.

I think it’s easy to come on here, pick a pack out and spout that the company are better as a whole based on this one thing you saw. I think if you look in reality at all the packages on offer then Virgin is at least equal overall. In my opinion, better overall.

We even do Sky Sports cheaper than Sky now!

Zee 15-02-2007 15:03

Re: Virgin Media more expensive than Sky

Blackie, you're correct.

The price i said for the 2nd package which was £36 is infact £47 WITH BT Linerental.
The 1st package i said i DID include the BT linerental with the price.

This is BT linerental, not Sky linerental, the money goes to BT.

I agree that you're having to pay that extra £11, but for most of the country( including me) who already have a BT landline DO NOT have to pay the extra £11 because they already pay it, so it isn't an extra cost.

No but if you took Virgin you wouldn't keep 2 landlines would you? Therefore you would have an £11 saving to take into consideration if you went with Virgin when weighing up the packages.

And that's how to make a fair comparison!

Re: Virgin Media more expensive than Sky

Why would you need 2 landlines? Theres no need for 2 landlines...

... you only need 1 landline for broadband, you just need filters in the line to use broadband and phone at the same time, so therefore that extra £11 doesn't come into it.

I'm sorry if you refuse to understand i can't keep explaining it.

You have a BT line rental already.
If you chose to go with a Virgin package you can drop the £11 BT line rental as it's built into all packages except the 2 for £20 deal for Broadband and TV.

If you look at Sky packs all prices have to have the £11 BT line rental to make a fair comparison. Sky even add the fact you need BT line rental to their package descriptions to make sure people arn't mislead.

End of rant.

You don't need a landline at all with VM Broadband:D
