Damn I am too late, but before you formatted did you try putting in the old graphics card first! That might have showed the screen.

I'm not familiar with ATI control panel, but it does seem like you've managed to set it up to use dual monitors, and the main monitor is the CRT on VGA, so when you change the setting to Digital its trying to change the main monitor (crt) to digital and goes all nice and blank.

Can you find some option to force single screen, (your pc may go blank then) just shutdown pc, unplug the VGA cable, and only leave the DVI cable in.


Then reboot?
Or even try to switch the primary display between 1 + 2

Do you get to see post when just connecting with the dvi? if not then its nothing to do with drivers if it is it could and simple way to test is to uninstall drivers and the control center reboot pc with dvi connected and reinstall drivers this will just use dvi. If you do see post when just using dvi you should be able to boot to safe mode

In the options it says single display and has the name of my TFT not the crt. I dont see anything to switch between vga and digital.

I cant see anything when just connected via dvi.

i even tried resetting factory defaults in the catalyst control panel and nothing. will try connecting the crt monitor again and see if i can figure something out

Well after doing some more research i came across a couple of threads where peeps were having the same problem but with a gateway monitor and using an ATI card. Some switched to a Nvidia card and it solved the problem and some still have the problem as far as i know.

One person said to put the system in standby mode....unplug the VGA cable(leaving the DVI cable connected)....unplug the monitor......wait about 10 min....turn on the PC.....plug the monitor in.....and it worked for them

I tried this and it worked for me too BUT i couldnt see post screen and i had to wait until the PC was up and running and turn the monitor off then on again then i saw my login screen.

So all i need to do is figure out how to get it so that i can see the post screen and not have to turn the monitor off and on again and i will be set.

Any ideas on this ?

The issue with the DVI cable is not resolved as yet. I have reverted to using the DVI and VGA cables together. Still loking for a solution.

Very odd, my dvi cable starts up straight away and also picks up the optimum monitor resolution for my lcd screen.

Yes it is odd....I've even did a clean install with the new graphics card and still had to use the VGA cable.
