I'm guessing you're on the punishment IP range mcmanic (mainly due to the content of your gamercard  )

It was only a joke, please don't take offence.

Still trying to ascertain what the range is, or if it's irrelevant.

Re: "Punishment" IP ranges

tis ok UNS have a message up now

We are currently experiencing a problem with our fiber channel network. This will cause download and connection failures. We should have a solution in about an hour.

You can test giganews speed on their webpage, they have a little flash app to test download speeds from the europe and US servers.

Re: "Punishment" IP ranges

My ip is in the 86.7.xx.xx range

I am not a heavy downloader at all so i am guesssing your theory is incorrect.

( but my speeds are appauling )

Re: "Punishment" IP ranges

It's not my theory it's what I and others have been told by Usenetserver and newshosting.

I hope it is / I am wrong, because I don't particularly want to have to leave NTL again.

Another satisfied Giganews customer here :waving:

ps - Bill, looking at your screenshots that's a fair few copies of Ubuntu you've downloaded ;)

Re: "Punishment" IP ranges

Taken from NH support newsgroup posted by Jason (NH Tech):

I've explained this once.. I will again. GN has a private 10G peering
connection to NTL. NTL is not limiting their private peering sessions.
Once we get our AMS pop established it will work around the issue just
like GN has.

> I find it impossible to believe that this is NOT a NH issue.

Well, it's not.

Re: "Punishment" IP ranges

I'd suspect the idea of a 'punishment range' is cobblers - on a distributed network with IP ranges devolved down to areas sometimes of a few streets, this would be prohibitively hard to manage at a national level. In fact, we've been trying to move away from small disparate IP ranges over the last year or so, to reduce maintenance load. Anyone coming out with a clever idea like this would have a posse of grim-faced DHCP configuration boys baseball-batting some sense into them.
