damaged usb ports pin shorting to ground(casing) can cause this, usb voltage usually connected via a fuse to voltage rail (vccaux_usb)

Something else to add to this. The old psu had a small 12v dc output to plug speakers into. I couldn't find a replacement with this. Someone at work told me today they were stopped because they were dangerous as they overloaded the psu? Anyone know anything about this?

yeah buy a cheap pair of creative 2.1's ;)
