:( No, and it does help your pocket to examine eBay's rules, especially buying something risky like a laptop!!

I go on their Community Question and Answer board quite a lot, there are loads of very helpful eBay users on there who have studied the far end of every eBay fart for years so if i ever have doubts i go there, though it's useful to get a posting ID if you have anything to hide cos they will do anything to find a fault with you :rofl:

Well said and if you use your e-bay seller/buyer username you get all sorts trying to wreck your auctions.

For all ebay transactions I try and use direct bank transfers using online banking. NO FEES involved! :-)

Doesn't that mean passing account details to strangers? PayPal avoids this.

Yes it involves giving bank details but in the form of IBAN and BIC codes for international buyers and for UK just there account number and sort code after all you can only put money in someones account and not take it out you need a lot more information then that to do that.

Paypal just try to scare people into using their service IMO

Bank Transfer doesn't involve giving anymore details than a cheque- in fact it's even safer as there's no signature to copy...

However, it is better and wiser to use Paypal for bigger purchases on eBay even though there is a cost, especially for the buyer as eBay consider it as recommended and if anything goes wrong they will be on your side.

I would have to add that in my case it was not better or wiser when I used Pay Pal as they where not quite on my side and so I lost even though I received nothing more then an empty box which I might was weighted and arrived over the period where you can try and get your money back less there fee's? it was some time ago but bitten once I never go back.
Also I find on high priced items sellers state that they will not take Pay Pal on the auction due to Pay Pal's fee's which is not part of the topic of this thread so can we respect the original thread starter and try to stay on topic.
On the whole a lot of users are happy with Pal Pay and do find it safe but I was one of the unlucky ones.
