Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
It might be a good idea if you didn't post your full IP in public until you've sorted out your problems (especially if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing and you are turning firewalls off etc). You can always PM a trusted forum member with it if you want them to test it.
EDIT: I see it's been sorted. Cheers. |
Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
Just to confirm you are doing it right.
1) You should be accessing via the WAN IP address (prolly something like 81.xx.xx.xx 2) On the router, you should have port 80 forwarded to your computer (prolly something like 192.168.xx.xx) 3) The relevant incoming/outgoing port (80) should be opened on the XP firewall (or, just to try it, disable the XP firewall). Sorry if you've already done all this. |

- although you will have to wait till your domain propagates through DNS to play properly - mine took slightly less than 48 hours, IIRC. :) |
Re: does ntl allow me to host a website from my computer?
John got it right on. It appears you've now solved the problem by getting some hosting anyway, although I would recommend looking at Apache rather than IIS if you end up running a server on your PC anyway -I do so that I can test server-side scripting such as PHP without having to upload the file to a remote server. It also makes the whole development process much faster :)
