The amplifier on your sound card will be pathetic, and the one in your speakers will only be a step up.

My guess would be your speakers probably couldn't go a great deal louder even with a separate amp between them, I'd recommend you get a stereo amp and a pair of speakers, but not the computer targetted ones, the vast majority are crap. You should be able to pick up something enough for what you need at not much of a cost.

I can take a picture of our interactive white boards when they was fitted they fitted above them the speakers they all came together whiteboard/laptop/speakers/projector.
