It all worked the last time I checked it. edit - in fact it wouldn't surprise me if it had Xp on it. |

I've got a half funny feeling that I have a spare PSU laying about here somewhere (I just need to remember which box marked "computer spares" it is in) but if I don't have any luck with that I may be turning up on your doorstep ;) I'll let you know, cheers again :tu: __________________ Quote:

I'll prolly start pulling the flat (and, following that, the PC) apart on Saturday. |
Re: Replacement for an AMD K6-2 500?
I have a k6-2 500 in the loft waiting to be rebuilt as a file server.
It will be fast enough for what I want, it was miles faster than anything else when it cam out :D |

Re: Replacement for an AMD K6-2 500?
To think I thought I was the only one still surfing the net with one of these. I had to build myself a new P4 3.4ghz for my music and graphics/games but for general web surfing and the odd bit of cd burning, and old games, it still does a good job.
I wouldnt reccomend trying to overclock any of these. I tried it once and it doesnt like it. The k62 seems to run fine at 533 but not anything higher for me. As for the motherboard.... I believe there were some that supported both AT and ATX power supplies. Mine does this but I currently have it on an old AT PSU. I think the best bet would be a new motherboard or ebay if you are after another same processor. |

Might be a rather moot point now Halcyon but I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Re: Replacement for an AMD K6-2 500?
Update:
Ok, after having a fairly lousy day at work I was convinced that I was on a hiding to nothing with changing the PSU but..... I swapped the old PSU out for one that I had laying around and it is working fine. In fact there doesn't appear to have been any damage to any of the other components. So, before I start counting my chickens:

Re: Replacement for an AMD K6-2 500?
Motherboard ID = 09/26/2000-SiS530-6801-2A5IMJ1AC-00
Motherboard Name = Jetway 530CF/531CF/531CN It lists the CPU type as being Socket 7, I take it that this means any socket 7 will be ok? Are there actually any faster Socket 7 chips out there? I take it that the easiest way to suss out what type of memory is in there will be to take a look at the motherboard's specs? I haven't installed any of the motherboard's software yet, will I see any improvement in performance if I do? |
Re: Replacement for an AMD K6-2 500?
As far as I remember 550mhz is max for socket 7 ,think after this amd shifted to slot
