BTW, FYI, while NTL's cable is carrying VOD, and it's being hosted at NTL head ends, it's not actually NTL rolling it out (obviously, they are involved, but they are not installing the servers or other hardware required).. |
Re: Whatever happened to...
Well NTL shouldnt be announcing mass rollout to the press if they have only rolled out to a small % of their areas.
I am also annoyed that NTL are spending money on this without finishing their digital tv rollout. |

Can anyone actually point at anything where NTL actualy said that ? |
Re: Whatever happened to...
It comes from the old (CR2) software that was used in Bromley areas. Until the last revision, whenever you pressed the text button on the remote, the box would bring up a window saying, "Digital Text is coming soon....", although to be fair to NTL, that software was actually designed by CWC.
Interestingly, even the very latest Telewest software comes with a "Digital Text is coming soon" message.... __________________ Quote:

On the other hand, it may be like the broadband rollout, where smaller areas are installed at the same time. For example, Poole/Bournemouth, Southampton/Winchester and Portsmouth/Southsea are three different franchises, but all had broadband installed at the same time -- they could possibly be regarded as one "market". Assuming the merger goes through in the next couple of months, it will be interesting to see whether this affects VOD rollout, too. NTL are a fair bit ahead of Telewest in terms of both the VOD software and getting the hardware installed -- will they divert resources into trying to get TW up to the same standard quickly? |

The new service, called ntl On Demand, will roll out regionally to ntl DTV customers throughout the UK, starting with our digital customers in Glasgow. This is the first mass market launch of Video on Demand (VOD) outside the USA." 2 keywords. 'Mass Market' 'Launch' |
