Why have they upped all the speeds when they obv. cant handle it? A 5 yr old could explain the concept of the traffic jam to you, so what gives?

Who says that they can't handle it? What could be the scenarios that are causing problems? Most customers will be doing nothing different to what they were doing before the speed increases and by that I don't mean trying to max out their connection 24/7. If you have a faster connection and want to download say a 10Mb file you will only be in a position to cause problems for half the time. I know that you could get a file of that size with a dialup speed but you would then be using bandwidth for a very much longer period of time with more chance of contention coming into affect. Faster speeds only reduce your capabilities to below what they were before their introduction if some users try to max them out for extensive periods of time.

No capacity issues would cause that sort of performance, you've a fault somewhere.

Presume that you've done the usual BS to check for virusez trojanz spywarez and all that claptrap?

Have you tested for packet loss at all?

With your permission I'll ask one of the lovely moderators to give me the IP address you are posting from.

Thanks.

Bdav,

Ignition is a bona fide NTL tech. You can trust him with the information he is requesting. I can pass that info directly to him if you agree.

:)

I am in the Bishops Stortford,Harlow area. I note that the service status page on NTL 's home page has shown a "degraded service" since Dec 22nd 04!!!

Works fine a.m. slows down around 4 p.m. stops dead after 7 p.m.

I am on cable moden Img and it seems (to me anyway) that there is a contention ratio problem. From December last year though, how long does it take to restore a useable service? Another week of no evening service and I fear its ADSL for me.

 bcamp

Nope!

Would tell you if I knew when it's going to be sorted.

Sorry about the long time waiting - been away for a while.

Yes, if you could pass on the IP that would be great.

I am having speed issues as well - cable modem - checked for virus and spyware - no issues there -
My speed has been real slow the past few days - did a check on a few sped sites. I am currently on the 2MB speed - just did another check and this is the result

Sun, 24 Apr 2005 16:47:57 UTC
1st 128K took 8797 ms = 14900 Bytes/sec = approx 124 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 8843 ms = 14822 Bytes/sec = approx 123 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 8750 ms = 14980 Bytes/sec = approx 125 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 8563 ms = 15307 Bytes/sec = approx 127 kbits/sec

Let's hope you receive less abuse, and get fewer people taking liberties, this time.

I, for one, think it's great that you're prepared to help people here in your spare time.

I'll PM you my long list of problems now :)
