So as the services become more and more high tech maybe we will see less VC's awarded.

However I predict that technology often goes wrong and that many young men/women will still have to perform extraordinary acts of bravery to rescue their comrades... :(

This

is the one I've known about for a long time because I lived in the Close(Gosport) named after him mentioned in this article.I decided on a whim to find out who the street was named after when I discovered that all the street names in the naval estate were after famous Naval personel or ships or even planes...Like Nimrod Drive. ;)

The street still exists too. :)

Well done and congratulations to him, I wouldn't have the balls to be a soldier at all. I'm glad that people like this can and are willing to do this job for and on my behalf.

Anyway I'm glad he's got the recognition that it looks like he deserved.

I just read the full citation for the award, which goes into more detail than the news story, he is a very brave man.

Unfortunatly not, as quickly as "protection" is developed to protect soldiers lives someone else is developing a weapon to defeat it.
Its a never ending vicious circle, the only real difference between the modern soldier and a medieval knight is that at times the distance you have to be from your target has increased :(

Oh and the peasants don't have to clear up after your horse :D
