Re: centrica feedback concerning NTL

AA sale was last July, to private VC firms. It was bought way back in 1999.

Centrica definitely have dealings with Macquarie, who also have dealings with ntl. So Centrica could be paying Macquarie for power who then use the money to pay ntl for the broadcast deal. Forget about the middle man and it looks like two deals are actually one.

Centrica and ntl are both members of Otelo (Office of the United Kingdom Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman), but so are seven other major telecoms players, most of whom have deals with each other in a greater or lesser degree. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Perhaps we could have a snippet of this famous intranet?

Your sister is compleatly wrong. :(

Actually he said 200 Million :)

But your point is well made, the statement made is full of holes, and goes against the excellent reporting that the business community refer to. If such a huge investment had been made, or that blocks of shares had been purchased that would allow Centrica to take over ntl, although I'm not sure why they would want to, we would have heard about it, and the share movements of ntl would indicate such. For centrica to do this anonymously is beyond belief, as they too have answer to regulatory bodies.

Although, a picture of Bill C, running through the trafford centre butt naked, or at least mooning the poor unsuspecting punters makes me almost wish that Chrysalis information was correct :)

I can't believe this thread still drags on.

Centrica do NOT own ntl. Period.

They didn't buy the AA 'recently', they bought them many years ago and have in fact since sold them on.

They did not buy Goldfish, they actually set Goldfish up from scratch.

No arguments, that is the situation. Thanks.

At the moment they're having serious problems with the trial due to fluctuations in broadband speeds where customers have living flame gas fires which draw too much supply away from the modem. I have it on authority that if these problems arent sorted soon then the Centrica deal is dead in the water. If everything goes to plan though, there will be a national role out of GPB (gas powered broadband) even in non cable areas meaning direct competition with BT nationally.

Hehe, very good, certainly made me chuckle :)

Well unfortently I have no access to the intranet myself either, I just forwarded what my sister told me.

Centrica are not a gas company.

Erm, if we are talking about the same Centrica, they were formed from British Gas..

Centrica is created following the demerger of British Gas plc. The group comprised the gas supply, services and retail businesses of British Gas, together with the gas production business of the North and South Morecambe gas fields. It also retained ownership of the Goldfish brand.
While they are no longer purely a Gas company, they still do Gas

Knowledge of the subject goes a long way to making sure the facts are correct :)

Re: centrica feedback concerning NTL

£200 million?!

Sadly that wouldn't go 'into' ntl, but into shareholder's pockets. Minor other issue of course that £200 million would do you for about 6% of ntl, which is worth considerably in excess of £3 billion.

A takeover of a NASDAQ company, or even owning of any considerable sum of shares would require various market declarations to be made by bother parties. Centrica valued at £9 billion I don't think would have the stomach to spend that much on ntl, especially when ntl seem more interested in merging (takeover paid for with shares) with Telewest and making a £5 biliion cableco (various rumours about this one, a lot pointing in the same direction, which unlike this drivel I believe).

HOWEVER the idea of gas powered broadband is top notch, especially after the curry I had last night, would that be considered uncapping the modem though?

6 months down the line:

BG engineers arrive to dig holes for the new FTTH
NTL engineers arrive to lay new HP gas mains

due to the cross training they all now receive the fiasco of downed overheads, smashed utility mains multiplies proportionately.

The end result is the entire city of Manchester without 'any' utilities whatsoever.

A subsequent govt: investigation (funded by Centrica) reveals it was the fault of the European Airbus Consortium (not owned by Centrica) whose brand new a380 had just made a fully publicised and scheduled landing at MIA and Network Rail, whose 12:32 into Stoke from Euston arrived on schedule

Bill C are you aware that the warm season is approaching and the TC air con will be considerably 'chilled' :D

edit: please note that the use of the word engineers is applied from a public pov and is no way a reflection on any persons whose actual physical job (not job description) involves work of an 'engineering' type. (before I start getting red repped or slagged off)

Bill C,

Just bare your butt in public, you've mentioned it twice now, you really want to do it, but waiting for someone to give you the encouragement you are seeking. :)

Let us know the date and we will be there and I'm sure someone will document it for the CF archives. :D
