Re: Additional set top box charges

When I had my second stb installed (2 months ago) it was free installation at the time. I called customer services at 7pm tuesday night and it was fitted 12pm on wednesday and the install tech even fixed a long term fault (for which I had had four techs in 6 weeks) whilst he was at it. If installation is no longer free the standard charge is £25 and the additional rental for the stb is £15 p/m giving you the same package as your primary stb.

With the post being 4 months old I was just making sure it was the same price as I can find nothing from ntl's site. Mind you, I probably havent been looking in the right sections.

Is it just a basic call to ntl customer support and book a time slot for an engineer to come and install? Also is the installation free or a sub charge on top?

Just for you

You're welcome, thankfully NTL have a search engine on their site or it might have taken a bit longer to find ;)

£15 pm? What a rip-off, Sky's only £10 pm extra and free installation!

Is that the full cost of a package that allows you to view different channels on each box? I seem to recall the multi-room package not being free since you have to pay for the additional box.

Sky charge £10 a month for multiroom, this allows you to watch your package on a second box. You have to provide the box however, either by buying a new one or using an old one (for example if you are upgrading to Sky+).

Like the first box, the second is your property and responsibility (i.e. you have to buy a new one if it breaks or pay for it to be repaired, once it is past the first year warranty preiod).

NTL supply the same as Sky and rent you a second box for £15 a month. You do not have to pay for the box to start with and if the box breaks at any time you get a new one free of charge.

Which, with the extra cost of a sky box will take nearly two years to break even, let alone be cheaper...

Unless the box breaks in those 20 months and you have to buy another one...

I know, I was just trying to make the poster realise the reason why ;)

I beg to differ....sky's 2nd box is £10 a month but you have to BUY the box so you pay £220 for sky but only £180 for ntl.

So me thinks ntl is cheaper.

And standard install is now supposed to be £25 for call-out and £25 for EVERY job the engineer is required to do! I know it used to be £25 in some areas, but NTL are making us all charge the same now, no matter where you live:Yikes:

Not quite sure who you mean by the callout charge. NTL do not charge for callout and do not charge for faults unless the fault is caused by customer error. If you need extra extensions etc the NTL will charge if thats what you mean.

I'm trying to guess what you mean.

Col means a charge of £25 for the callout/engineer visit and then £25 per job that the customer requires, ie 2 telephone extensions is £25 callout and then 2 extenstions x £25 = £75 for the job

I thought it was just the cost of 25.00 for the extension and no call out.
