Re: Get my Laptop Online

OK, from the IT dept's view now:
If he were one of my users he would not have the authority to create local users accounts, simply because of situations like this.
A simple question has got very convolluted, and confusing to some readers. The simple answer is - the laptop will be supported by the company's IT dept. who will talk the user through removing the tick from "Use a proxy server", and instruct him to turn off the cable modem, connect the latop, turn on the cable modem, wait a short time, then get the user to ping a known server (such as www.yahoo.com), if all works fine he's done, if not further troubleshooting will take place.
As I say, if he were one of my users.

I am confused by the last post, surely this is not the case being as he will connecting to my router. His IT company have given permission to make ammendmends, but have warned him to be careful to keep a record of IP adresses etc. and to replace them before returning to work.
I thought that we had accepted that he could set it to auto with his works settings on the alternate tab and the only manual input being in IE to alter the proxy setting tick box.

If you are referring to MY last post, I think you can ignore it. Some companies supply lap tops to their employees with admin rights only available to the IT department. If this were the case, you would not be able to change the LAC settings, as you would not be able to log on to an account with admin privileges - only the IT department would be able to do this. From your post above, this does not apply to you. Your last paragraph is correct.

If it was just the proxy settings, I would agree. However the IP settings also need to be changed, which requires admin rights.
