The transparent caches appear to be OFF at the moment - at least for me.

May be waaaayy of the mark here but have you run all the spyware checks etc.

Recently did some work on a friends pc which took a whopping 45seconds to download 1mb in a speed test. Browsing was painfully slow I found over 60spyware with adware dialers etc and also running tasks in background was high. To sort out spyware google for

adware se 1.05

spybot 1.3

and to check what is booting on startup click start/run/ then type msconfig

May be off mark but worth mentioining and yes once I cleaned the system browsing went to normal speeds.

Update and scan weekly with Adaware and S&D. No issues except for those stupid cookies. Ntl normally get you to do this first.

Ntl support's FINAL answer was it's my pc so re-install windows. I have linux on seperate partition and that was slow too, his answer to that.... we don't support linux?!?!?!? Yes I know but it proves it's not the OS!!!!! arghhhh!!!

Re: Slow web browsing again...

I am getting a BT line today and as much as I was excited about the idea of 2Mb cable connection for 24.99 I think I'll get a 512Kb ADSL connection. As my mate pointed out, better a 512 connection that browses at that speed, than a 2Mb that is only good for ftp.

I cannot use online gaming now and AllSeeingEye cannot update server lists so this weekend was a serious downer.

Welcome to the NTL service to be honest was a lot better before they switched the proxies back on again .

its not the proxies but the routing software for the proxies
NTL can not fix it otherwise they would have wouldnt they :D

Having read a few other posts from various other parts of the country I can only assume this is a genral problem for a few of us. SLo or none browsing yet speed tests fine, network connection ok then gone minutes later. Is there an problem with the ntl network that they have not spotted?

A friend is lending me a mac this weekend... if that goes slow then I can assume ntl do not know what they are doing.
