Yes it is free although it has a small advert that runs at the top of the page, you can pay to remove it though. I have used it for years and think opera is by far the best browser around.

There is a "free" version, but it displays ads in the toolbar. Not too intrusive though and AFAIK doesn't spy on you.

No, but there is a google search option on the toolbar.

I take it that ( re. this latest jpeg threat) as long as IE is fully patched and you are running up to date AV there is no real risk? Anyone have any thoughts?

Yes, it does. To use it, go to "Tools", "Quick preferences" then select the type of pop-up blocking you want.

I suspect that if Google develop a toolbar for Firefox (and they are apparently considering it), it'll work in Opera and Nutscrape as well, as they all use the Netscape plugins..

:dunce: Patching of Office is a bit of a nightmare as you need to have all the install disks, I could find the Office XP and Office 2000 disks for both my machines, but the FrontPage 2000 disk had gone awol (since found) and the patch would not install without it.

I think this is to verify you own the software?

Anyone would think MS had designed this bug so they could crack down on dodgy copies of the Office suite.

All the Office patches come in two flavours - standard lite version and 'full file' version. The office update tool supplies the lite version which need the Office CD's, but if you open the MS security bulletin (more info link on Office update) you can download the full file version (no CD needed). Means you can't easily install multiple patches at once, but it helped me with this patch ;) HTH

I patched Mandys MS Office and it said I'd need the discs. Didn't get asked for them once! Id say you should try the patches for office and see if it asks for them......

Only for the XP 02 and 03 versions. I have Office Pro 00 on my desktop and don't feel the need to pay the upgrade costs just yet.
